What is the pan that sits behind the oil pan?

Just keep an eye on it..if it leaks again you either need a new gasket(cheap) or the pan is crooked(probably not cheap)

Yeah i forgot to mention, that when i am trying to find a leak, that has obviously been leaking for awhile, and has sprayed EVERYTHING under the vehicle, i will usually use a high pressure sprayer or degreaser and clean everything up real good....then keep a close eye on where the fresh stuff is leaking from :D

yeah brake cleaner works real good on just about everything,,,,just don't go trying to use CARB cleaner on alot of stuff with rubber components and seals and such,,,it dries them out.

leak

I thought my rear main seal was leaking a while back so I took it to a guy in town that races chevy engines and that's all he works on. Turns out my engine was leaking from both the oil pressure sending unit and the back of the passenger side valve cover. From where the oil was ending up underneath the truck I would have sworn it was a rear main seal. We fixed the upper engine leaks and it magically stopped dripping underneath.

yeah, those older style valve covers, and also the rear of the intake manifold are notorious for leaking, and making you think it is something more major than it really is,,,well an intake leak isn't really a cakewalk, but you know what i mean.

...my truck does the same thing...my rear main is leaking and so the oil drips down and is blown back once it gets to the bottom of the torque converter cover and lands on everything behind it...including the transmission pan.
Hmmm I thought that was a GM 'rustbelt' option, "Automatic Oil Underspray"
