Driving the CUCV, and I hear this high pitched noise that seems to be coming from the back of the truck. Its not a squeal like a belt from the engine, but not a chirping either. Its kinda in between. Just a high pitched noise. It only happens when i have the throttle down about 1-2 inches. No sound before that, and nothing after that. Any ideas? My gut is that its either the rear output on the transfer, or the rear axle.

thow it up on jackstands and see if you can replicate it. it helps to be looking under there when you hear it.
Rear u joint would be my guess.
x2 Metal on metal when the joint is under torque.

pull the diff cover and check the r&p. last time i had rear end noise it was the gears. u-joints usually just start to cause bad vibes at certain rpms.

I've put over 70k miles on mine with the rear end whining. I keep waiting for it to go but the darn thing keeps holding on. I just need an excuse to put the 14sf in.
