Well I've been piecing together a Blazer I purchased not too long ago and today I crawled under it to see if there was anything missing under there. I noticed it's missing the cover thing that bolts on under the torque converter. Anybody know what this is called? I wanted to start looking around the net to see about how much it's gonna cost to get a replacement but I don't even know what to call it..

78 Blazer 4x4 btw..

It is generally called a dust shield or inspection cover. I don't know of anyone that makes aftermarket ones, I think they are a strictly junkyard type item.

alright thank you. yea I figured eBay and the junkyard were my only hope, and I'm pretty sure the junkyard will be cleaned of them.

I love this site, answers at 1 in the mornin =]

thanks again

Ive always called it a Bellhousing

Pay no attention to the Grime I had a Freeze plug Leaking behind the starter that was running all over inside the housing.

The bellhousing is technically the part that the dust cover/inspection cover bolts to. The bellhousing holds the transmission to the engine, the cover just provides inspection access and access to remove the torque converter bolts.

Gotcha I know what your talking about now I just have always called the lower part a bellhousing too. If nothing else there is a picture HAH

By braces, you mean the two metal rods that run from the cover to the engine mounts? with a bolt in each end? Mine hit the oil pan. How is the pan in the photo able to use them without interference?
