Working on my buddies 86 blazer, yesterday his steering got a turn and a half of play in it, put it on the lift this morning and found that 2 of the studs in what I think is the left side front spindle are broken. It's what holds the driver side steering arm on. Pretty sure this part is called the spindle. 10 bolt front axle. What's the best route to go, drill out and re tap or replace the whole thing.

That's the "knuckle". The spindle is the tubular piece the bearings ride on.

It's hard to say, you might try to get the pieces out but I wouldn't spend too much time as that's a common and probably cheap part.

You might be able to get the busted studs out by drilling,or welding a nut to them...if you feel you may have weakened the knuckle by heating it too much or the studs dont come out intact, and the threads get boogered,it may be better to just find a good used knuckle at a salvage yard, which would be quicker than trying to repair the original..

Most yards balk at "stripping" a complete axle for just one part though, unless one is already half cannibalized..

If it's cheap we will just replace it, but I'm not finding any under 250$. Have you seen them cheap somewhere? Mind linking a part if you know of any?

You should post in the "parts wanted" section in the classifieds here. Im sure members here would have one...

When I said cheap, I was thinking of a used part. That knuckle is the same on all 10 bolts (1/2 & 3/4 ton) '78+ so they should be very plentiful. Do you have any u-pull-it salvage yards close by?

Note: a D44 knuckle will be different as the tie rod mounts differently (bottom up vs top down, iirc)

There's a few salvage yards nearby but no Blazers or square body's in general.

I would be a little bit worried about what it hit hard enough to break those off. I wonder if anything else is damaged
