Vehicle - 1996 K1500 Suburban with a 4L60E.

A few months ago there was a ticking/rattling noise coming from the torque converter cover area. Then one day it stopped.

Now, a few months later, I finally get around to taking the cover off and I find this in there.... what is it?

It measures about 4 or 5 inches long.

It looks like a bracket for holding throttle or TV cable. How the he!! did that get in the inspection cover???

I dont know if you have ever replaced the intake gaskets on any of your Vortec trucks divorced but it almost looks like a bracket that bolts to the back of the passenger side head......

When was the last time you had the cover off? Could you have left something in there? Can't see how anything could work it's way in there.

Not sure, but I can see cat or dog hair on your floor.

I'm thinking pubes.:eek1:

Nope, can't be. I shave. :D Actually, I think it's some of my girlfriends hair... she sheds worse than any dog I've ever seen.

It started making the noise shortly after I bought it, and I've never had anything apart on it. I showed it to the mechanic at the Chevy dealer today and he thinks it's a mounting bracket also... and says it didn't come from the torque converter area.

While at the dealer today I spotted a '97 Tahoe that they just got in. It's real nice and loaded with everything including leather seats and has only 88,000+ miles. I'm thinking of trading my '95 C1500 and some $$$ for the Tahoe. :D

Hey now, quit it with all the joking. This is the Garage, guys.....:deal:

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyhow, I can't say that the bracket in question looks familiar all by itself. Have you scoured the engine bay to see where it might have come from? The question remains, though- How the heck did it get under the inspection cover???? Wierd..........

About 3" or just a bit more. I don't think they are both bolt holes though. It looks like 1 of them is a bolt hole and the other may have had a plastic clip pushed through it, maybe to hold a wire loom? The Suburban used to have a body lift on it that I have now removed, but there were many clips and brackets that had the bolts removed so the stuff could be "stretched" for the body lift. I have no clue how this could have gotten in the cover...

just a thought

could it be a starter shim??? Maybe fallen off when the starter was replaced last??
