What does this valve on the heater hose ,behing the Alt , do (open and close im guessing) and where do I need to hook the vac hose to?

Is this the hot wire for the fan?(with the yellow wire nut)

I've never seen that on trucks.

On Oldsmobiles the vacuum line was hooked up to the heater controls, so when it was turned off, hot water was not allowed into the heater core, unlike without a valve, which constantly circulates the hot water through it, warming the cab.

So if I cut it off and put the hose direct , it would`nt hurt anything?

That valve is normally open (takes vacuum to close it). That being the case, leave it as is and the heater core should get hot water. This is a fairly common mod in hot climates to improve A/C performance. If you want to make it functional, you can put a vacuum tee in the hose going to the plenum valve (door inside cowl on passenger side). That door closes with vacuum in "Max" A/C and by tapping into it, it will shut off water to your heater core possibly lowering A/C temps. I guess, after looking at your setup there, that probably won't be an isssue seeing as how there doesn't appear to be a few important pieces that are required to make the A/C function. With that in mind, leave it in or take it out, it shouldn't matter either way.

Thanks Mosesburb !I may remove it later on just because its ugly an in the way.

Any ideas about the wire in the 2nd pic? If that vavle is letting water flow , I just need to get the fan to blow.

hot wire to the blower motor. looks like you are also missing the relay that it attaches to. this is where the the plug hanging in the picture should go.

Frankin K5 is right. You are missing the blower relay that the connector hanging in the picture plugs into. But upon further investigation, it appears as though you are missing the wire that comes out of the connector that goes to the blower motor. In the pic, on the connector, the "hole" on the very left of the connector should have a terminal in it with a wire coming out of it going to the blower motor. It appears to be missing. If, in fact it is missing, you can get a replacement connector/harness pigtail at a parts house where you get the relay, splice it in and you're done (hopefully).

or I could just put a switch on the yellow wire nut wire, then to a hot source.

The downside to doing it that way would be that you have constant power and a steady flow of heat. I don't know about you, but that is way too much heat. I can usually only run a short time with the fan on high before I have to turn it down. Just something to consider.

Probably draws too much for a switch anyway, which is why GM wired it with a relay.

I would put a relay on it of course.
Once its warm inside my cab,it pretty much stays comfortable in there. So if I can just heat it up I wont need to run the fan but once in a while.
