What is this? Resistor?

I searched and can't find out what this is or if I need it? I'm pulling everything out for paint before I drop the ls in.

Sweet thanks. Since my rig doesnt have any HVAC, it's gone. I'll keep it in a box for time travel purposes. I'll probably go vintage air or something later.

Are you sure that's the heater resistor? All the ones I've seen have been in the side of the heater box. Could it be an aftermarket one? What it looks like to me is one of those resistors for an old school trailer brake controller.

It's a Kelsey Hayes selective resistor for trailer brakes. Since you only have one terminal connected, it's currently doing nothing.

Ok so it is some kind of brake reduction devised on the trailer breaks, and is used with electric trailer brake controller

I've had several hydraulic trailer brake setups, never seen an old electric setup like that.
