What is this???

Integral part of the TBI system. It monitors the exhaust gases to regulate the fuel delivery. It helps regulate the air/fuel mixture.

i have an aftermarket bung and sensor on my carb'd truck that runs a air/fuel mixture gauge. it was installed by a past owner and i'm not sure how accurate it is. it fluctuates when cold to warm and when you stomp the gas and when you let out of it.
i richened and leaned my carb adjustments(just to see),and it showed it on the gauge, but i pay very little attention to the gauge.

What would be the point of the O2 senser

Fuel injection computers use it to monitor the air/fuel ratio to make small corrections on the base air/fuel map that is in the ECU. Some people hook these (1 wire narrowband oxygen sensors) up to aftermarket gauges to try and tune with, but without getting a true wideband oxygen sensor system, it is basically pointless.
