I have not seen this rod that is attached to the TBI and that vacuum looking thing. What is it and what does it do? Can I make it go away?

Thanks,

Rick

I believe it's cruise control

If it works id leave it. I wish I had cruise in mine

I was thinking that too, but I am stumped on how the heck it works with just a shaft that is hooked on a stationary part with a slide on the other end...
Not sure how that keeps it in place for cruise. I just wanted to put a spacer under by TBI and was curious on what it is.

Thanks,

Yep, vacuum/electric control. As I recall, two vacuum lines on the back side, one to the brake switch, one to a vacuum source.

Electric portion handles the speed/application of vacuum.

The slot allows it to not interfere with the throttle linkage when it is not in use.

Yes it is Cruise there is the switch on brake and also a small black box slightly above that area inside. The cruise lever on stalk has a wire that plugs in to the black box under dash. That has a wire to switch and fuse block. Some where I have a diagram for it.

Knew I had it...

Nice find on the diagram Metrodps! Thanks for the clarification on this thing guys.:waytogo:

I relocated mine onto the firewall between the wiper motor and DS fender. I got a cable from some GM FWD car to hook it up (it has the slot). So if you would still like cruise, but that thing is just in the way, maybe that idea helps. IIRC, I had to relocate the vacuum ball first, which required modifiying the 2nd battery tray brackets. I can't remember how far that stack of dominoes went.

The reason I even asked is because I have another TBI Body that I have modded and would like to swap the factory one out. My concern was that the other TBI does not have that linkage on it. Is that something that I can swap out to the modded TBI?

If the other throttle linkage does not have that rod on it you can remove it from the old one and bolt it on the new one.
