a 1986 Chevy K30, M-1031, 3500, 5/4 ton military contact truck?

The dana 60 (4:56 gears) in it is for sale and I wanted to know if it is still a direct bolt in for an '87 K5 Blazer?

Is there anything special about this dana 60 coming from a military contact truck?

Any info about this will help me decide if I'm going to buy it or not.

Are you sure it's a M1031 (not an M1008)? If so, then it should have a 205 t-case and the D60 will have a Trac Lock limited slip diff - these are rare and not in most CUCV's.

Edit: you may already know but all CUCV's have Detroit Lockers in the rear axle.
 
The ad states that the dana 60 was pulled from the described truck....I didn't know what a "contact" truck was.
Ad as written, "Chevy contact truck dana 60 front axle, rock crawler."
I want to replace my 10b's and wanted to make sure it would be a good swap. It has the 4:56 gears that I'm looking for and a dana 60 would be a bonus.
It's not too far from here so I'd drive to pick it up.

quit messing around and go get it.

Yes it will be quite easy to swap in. I think I had to drill out my brake lines a little to make them fit to the 60. I put in crossover steering at the same time but I assume if it still has the stock steering with it it will bolt up
 
Not that it is a deciding factor - But a military "contact truck" is simply a tool vehicle, transporting a mini shop, basically. These CUCVs were pickups with large camper sized boxes in the back.

Picked up the d60 today.....damn that thing is heavy...!!!
I'll have to wait till spring or first part of summer to get a 14bff.
Finally on my way to a 1 ton build. :saweet:

Most 1031's have a 208 t case. The axles in my old Jimmy were out of one and it had a 208. A friend of mine has been parting out or selling whole M trucks for over 10 years and has only ever found 2 trucks with a 205 in them. 1 of them was in a M1008 which was odd to say the least. He has also found several 14 bolts that were missing the Detroit. You never know what you might find in these trucks so always be sure to check them out.

All 1031's had a 205 from the factory. They needed the PTO to run the generator. However, the military converted a bunch of 1028 cab/chassis trucks to 1031's by stripping the beds off of old Dodge contact trucks and reused them when they were replaced.
 
I would like to have the matching rear but the guy I bought the front d60 from said the rear 14bff got stolen.
I haven't opened the diff yet to check the internals but it all looks excellent on the outside. Once I get the cover off I'll know if it's an open carrier or a posi.
I paid $750.00 for the d60 and $120.00 to meet me half way (about 2 hr. drive)...and I gave him a little extra for his time.
He was very nice and great to work with on this deal. He has been on CK5 but I forgot to ask what his log-in was.

Finally got the cover off....it looks like it has the Trac lock limited slip as mentioned earlier in this thread by nvrenuf.
I think I'm gonna leave it in and wait to see how good/bad it works when I get a matching 14bff with a detroit.
From some searching it seems the Trac Lock isn't that great, but there were a couple of members who liked it. I'll have to be my own judge when I get the chance.

Is there a swap over kit (from 10b to dana 60) that includes the u-bolts, spring plates etc.?
