Looking to get gears and lockers for my '91. What kind of lockers do you guys use?, do you like them?, and how are they on pavement?
thanks , hess

Well we need to know what truck your talking about? mostly what axles? 10 bolt? If its a K5 then your talking about 10 bolts front and rear and if your looking to get different gears then you are probaly best off looking into some 3/4T or 1 ton axles like a 14bolt FF, or a 14bolt SF. either would be a nice upgrade and can be easily found with 4.10's. At that point you can convert your front axle to 8 lug as well.

well i was going to go for a 14 b but right now i have a 10b in front and a 12 in back, was going to go 4.56 gears and ????? lockers

what size tire and trans?

Detroit for the 14 is the norm in here....

Ive had the same question but more along the lines of type. Electric or air? and are there any other kiind?

ARB's. You can go with a Detroit in te back but if your going spend the money just do it once and get ARB's. Your 10 and 12 bolt will survive better not being locked all the time. Stay with a 35" tire or smaller and you should be ok. 4.56's will be fine.

I'll run a Detroit in the 14, but the front 60'll stay open till I get an ARB at some point down the road...

they're pricey, but it's the best selectable locker there is....

X2. Detroit in the back and a ARB up front is a great combo.

If you plan to stay with the 12 bolt and put a locker in it look into doing a c-clip eliminator kit.

C-clip eliminator kits DO NOT like side loading and tend to break pretty easy. These were originally designed for the race car market and just about everyone has stepped away from them these days.

My vote would be ARB front Detroit rear! That's what I went with. I would definitely agree with going for a 14bff rear for the rearend, by the time ya beef up the 12bolt, ya coulda gotten a 14bff. Bonus- if ya get one from a CUCV it comes loaded with a Detroit and 4.56's right off the bat! That's what mine is from.

I like the Eaton E-lockers myself.. I run a lot of snow and ice and I like the option to have to fully open or locked. I've run them for years and never had a problem. 14SF rear and Dana 60 front. I also have a 10 bolt front that I ran a E-locker in that I took out of my rolled 90.

They are a little pricey.. $700 and up.
