what kinda oil do you put in your compressors for onboard air set up? i have like a half gallon of some kinda silicone oil. was wondering if i can dump this in there? i hear that wd 40 will burn it up. its just a beater offroad truck. no a/c is hooked up just the compressor

I run air compressor oil in my york

whats the texture of it... im just wondering if i can use trans fluid or something of that nature. i have tons of crap laying around here

I would go with regular compressor oil - or, a non detergent straight 30 weight oil, if you have to throw something in there.

non detergent is the key - you want to minimize combustion deposits, that can contaminate and perhaps clog things. For that reason, I wouldn't use tranny fluid..lots of additives in there that can cook out.

as for the silicone oil, that sounds to me like it would be better as a jack oil, or for a hydraulic application.. something where the oil has to transfer mechanical power, not just lubricate.
