i've been using palmolive dish detergent for a while, but i'm thinking there may be something better?

I just use pure rain water, but if I had a nice car, I’d buy some car wash detergent. I’ve read the dish soap is bad for automotive paint, probably takes the wax off if you use it.

it will strip every ounce of coating off it... just like a laundry detergent, spray 9, etc.. great if you are trying to degrease a car for bodywork, paint correction, etc.. normal maintenance? horrible...

having been a former pro detailer, i should stay up more on current stuff.. i am in a few detailer groups and hear scuttlebutt, but don't pay too much attention.. the car guys are nuts now.. foam cannons are the chit apparently... Adams, chemical guys, obsessed garage, etc all have crazy amounts of different soaps, chemicals for every detailing thing you could imagine.... it's a GIANT industry these days..

all that said.... if you want something that will do a decent wash and not strip the heck out of it, look for any car wash that is pink, not blue... yup.. they include a teflon usually and are designed to NOT strip wax... or they have stuff that does both like this Adams one...

Since this is the body shop forum I assumed that was his question for cleaning before paint but after I saw the first reply and then seeing who the op is figured might be just regular wash
