As the title states, which shifter would a '91 v3500 with the 4l80 and 205 use to shift the transfercase?

I am installing a 4l80 and 205 in the burb and the stock shifter wont work correctly. I purchased a shifter from a 400 205 combo, it hasn't arrived yet but looking more closely at things I don't think it will line up.

Well, I found my answer and need one of these

What's the part number?

Check that out at gmpartsdirect.com, most dealer parts guys I've dealt with (no one on here of course) are idiots and unwilling or incapable of actually looking this stuff in their reference materials.

then it probably is disco'd. :(

Not surprising, GM long ago lost interest in keeping it's enthusiasts happy.

Dealers can run a check against other dealer inventory, so I'm told. AFAIK GMPD doesn't do this when you do a part number search. You might try another dealer and ask if they can check other dealer stock. I found a disco'd tranny cooler kit for our trucks that way.

Yeah....I called two other dealers to have inventory checked. Nothing out there. Hard to believe they have all be been over the years considering just one year production. Wonder if any extras were run.

Hmmmm...learn something new everyday. I never knew the shifters were "bent" like that compared to the 400/205 shifters.

Another tip to fix is to heat and bend a 400/205 shifter to the necessary clearance. But not on chrome.

It's not a particular deal with the drivetrain combination, it's the year difference. When they went with the short adapters in '85, they used the adapters to make the driveline lengths as common as possible at. So the shifter typically got set back further.

Found this out on my '85+ 465/205 swap, which uses an adapter 3" longer than the previous, and necessitated the change in shifter by GM.

AFAIK, all '85+ TH400/465/4L80E 205 applications use the exact same shifter. Mine came from a 4L80E/205, and fits correctly in my '86 tub.
