I have an 86 K5 and I am trying to figure out what kind of T/C it has in it. The only markings that I see on it is 1508S next to that it says NP. Can anyone correlate this to a NP208 or any other model? These markings are on the back of the T/C to the right of the output shaft cover. Is there somewhere else that the T/C will be labelled? Thank you in advance for your help!

Yeah that's my fear. I just bought this truck and the previous owner was even more clueless than me. So there's no telling.

There should be a metal tag riveted to the case ,in the frint above the frint drive shaft, with the model numbers on it and the gear ratio...I'd guess it has a NP208 or possibly a NP241..

You actually would need to clean all the crap off the t-case to read the tag:whistle:.

I can see the tag in the pictures.......look on the back of the case and there is a round circle held on with a screw in the middle along the bottom edge. Wipe it off and it will say NP208 on it.

tag circled in red. You can link photobucket pics here using the image code, just copy and paste it and you will get a pic. Clean that tag off and it should say 208 and give you the low range which is 2.62 I think.

Yepper, that was it! Thanks for the help. It is a 208 and I beleive the Low range was 2.61. Eitherway, you have helped me to confirm. Thanks again!

As others have already said and as you found out it is an NP208. Do yourself a huge favor though and get rid of those spacers between the frame and t-case crossmember if you don't want a cracked frame to repair. Those spacers are factory but were actually on the top side of the frame rail and someone has moved them to try and drop the t-case to eliminate a driveline vibration. You need to replace the spacers with a piece of flat bar steel the same thickness but that is the same width as the crossmember.

One other thing, I noticed that the torque bar is missing that bolts up to where you see the big bolts and extends up to a transmission to engine bolt.

Here's what it should look like with the spacers in the factory location and the arm bolted back up...

agreed 100%
some PO did that on my truck and for no reason, it's only a ~2" lift
I put it back to stock (no drop or anything) and it runs 0-80mph smooth :dunno:

sounds like, with this truck, you may be suffering previousowneritous
