The fuel gauge on my dd (2000 s10) just died. What goes bad?

Details? What is it doing? Where is the needle? How much fuel is in the tank? Etc?

the needle is not going below 2/3s of a tank when there is hardly any gas at all. Today it was about bone dry and i added 6 gallons and it was reading a had a full tank.

My 99 grand am just started to do this as well. It says it has 1/2 tank but its 100% full.

Probably not the guage but the sender.
Sometimes the float leaks, arm gets bent or the thing gets stuck altogether.

My 99 Blazer is doing this-I have been told it is the sender also which is serviced with the fuel pump-$400 :(
