What makes an excellent all around truck?

You are right on, that's funny because I hadn't thought of KOH at all.
I suppose the thought of limitations has brought me back down to planet earth. The blazer being what it is, big heavy and tall in relative terms doesn't make for a good base to go "fast" on. I have a very specific definition of fast after many year on dirt bikes so its hard to have a vehicle that can take that kind of abuse. I am slowly realizing that without spending a boatload and even then Id probally not be where I want. Muscle trucks always were cool to me, they look cool sound cool if the sound matches the GO then all the better. I feel the nice clean uncomplicated build would be better spent, the truck doesn't get as abused or cut up in anyway so when my son gets it the truck isn't totally trashed.
I got a line on an 8 inch lift, Ill probally run military 37s because they are cheap and plentiful, I need to do some body stuff to get it straight and the interior needs help. Those are all enough for a lifetime of projects.

You're right. There in lies the issue with ultra4 style rigs. They are purpose built from day one to keep everything low. Thats a very hard thing to do with a full body.
 
My build is somewhat of an all purpose truck I suppose.

It's definitely not going to keep up with a lot of rigs in the extremes of any particular off road genre. It's far more important to me that I can make use of it regularly.

I had a pretty extreme rock crawler but I never had time to do that. In reality and bringing my feet back down to earth, I think i'll enjoy what I'm building now much more. It's very easy to get caught up in building a super extreme rig, all the while, making it so specific to one task, you end up limiting your enjoyment of it.

I think you can definitely mix it up in the mild stuff and still drive it daily. But once you decide you have to take it to the extremes daily driving qualities will be the thing that suffers.
 
Right it's the balance of the things you want out of it. By doing my research I guess my truck idea is most like a mud truck, kinda tall big tires and big power.. Obviously that doesn't work much for hardcore stuff, I'm locked in the rear so it helps me get over most stuff. But for my purpose I'll get more use having it be this way then if it was some beat crawler the wife would never want to be in. Plus car shows etc are not hard on the little one right now.

Both these trucks are cool to me, he second one is a little to high or the tires are to small.
 
Is that second truck Muddin Manny's? Lol. Both seem a little tall for me. Utilizing the bed would be more difficult. Also, that 1st truck looks like the front axle needs to be moved forward
 
Truth of the matter is, you can do a whole %$#@ load of wheeling in a stock rig. More than most people who go out and play, do.

Set it up for street, add a tiny bit of lift, or not, and have at both. Ask yourself what do you ACTUALLY do 90% of the time. Set it up for that.
 
I don't know who those trucks belong to, I agree the second one is too tall. But I have a 92 k2500 for towing and running errands etc.. I got a bike for putting around offroad and I'll eventually buy a rail for the go fast sand and other stuff. So the blazer is a yard ornament save for the times I take it out and beat the hell outa it, I mean jump it crawl it bang it against rocks drift it etc.. Basically it's a fill in till the rail comes.. I know that will be the end of the truck if I keep it up so I'd rather preserve it for my kid.. I would love to build it how I use it but I don't see that being feasible when a nice used rail is in the 10-20k range and would be far more capable for how I drive..
