It is listed as GMC Diesel, so Im guessing its out of a medium duty GMC.

Definitely medium duty with that SAE bell pattern...

It is a 1960's GMC Toro-Flow diesel. A converted V6 gas engine with gobs of torque, and tons of problems.
Essentially, the first of GM's boat anchor engines.

looks like a 8.2L Detroit to me. then again I've never heard of a toro-flow V6 diesel either. but it sure looks like a fuel pincher 8.2L detroit with the 4 plugs of paper in the exhaust ports on this side make a v8. the turbo is missing. if it has one. would have sat behind the intake in that open space.

we got an 8.2 at work too, now I'm 100% sure it is.
see that toro-flow deal there, has intake and exhaust both on the outside of the heads as well. kinda different.

I would call the number on the sign, It belongs to the City of Weatherford Texas probably their parks and recreation department. :wink1: You would probably be able to get the scoop on the motor.

it was designed to go in a truck, not a pickup truck mind you. med to light duty class 4-5-6 type stuff. from way back. Ive worked on them in industrial applications too, generators and air compressors. its like a slightly overgrown 6.2. well the 8.2 is the engine design that the 6.2 was based on.

I like how the injector lines don't go over the rocker covers - I wish they'd have kept that feature on the 6.x.

The 8.2 doesn't use a pump-line-nozzle setup. It's like the 2 strokes where each cylinder has a cam actuated unit injector with a rack between them that controls delivery volume. It's also a direct injected engine rather than an IDI, so the injector is near the center of the cylinder rather than sitting at the edge.
