I have a 1991 GMC Jimmy which I would like to add updated seats. Has anyone experienced swapping out orginal seats with ones from a newer Chevy/GMC truck (suburban, tahoe, trailblazer, silverado, etc..). How difficult?

Thanks

im looking to do the same thing .. ive seen planty of k5s with the 99-06 tahoe, suburban, escalade, youkon ...ect ect front buckets instaled i know the seat tracks mount flat doesnt look too hard and since ive seen plenty with this mod done to them im thinking thats a good route.

you got the seatbelts in the seat and everything seat controls on the side of the seat with the excption of the seat heater controls you would either fab up a switch for em or get the factory switch which is typically mounted in the doors armrest location.

I want dark charcoal or black seats but the only people wrecking their trucks had light grey or tan its pissing me off!

I have a 1981 K20 truck. I swapped the old bench seat for a 1994 60/40 cloth bench seat from a Chevy truck. It required some floor pan hammering and spot welding but the seats are very comfortable ( electric lumbar support - yes! ). If your floor pan is already recessed, you could probably just bolt in the new seats. For safety I used the original floor pan mounted seat belts.

Most junk yards are interconnected via " hot line ". Pick the seat design, color wanted, and year of truck / SUV that would have them. Leave them a phone/cell number to contact you. I wanted grey since I wasn't sure what color I was going to paint the truck. It took a few days, cost $200 ( a few years ago ) . They were perfect - no blemishes or burns. It sure improved the ride quality and looked 1000% better.

I'm not big on the 99-06 seats. My G/F has a 2004 Yukon XL, she had a 2006 Tahoe, and a friend has a 2002 Silverado.

2 out of 3 had leather seats, which were more comfortable to me than the cloth for some odd reason. They just seemed to have better support.

Honestly, some of my favorite seats right now are the factory seats in another friend's 2007 Silverado. It's totally different than the earlier seats, and much more comfortable to me.

YMMV

I've thought about using a pair of leather seats from a 98-02 Dodge Ram. They come in black, have the seat belts integrated into the seat itself, and are more comfy than the GM seats IMHO.

So for the integrated seatbelts, are people just leaving the stock belts mounted and unused? i'd love to get the new seats and then plug the mounting holes for the retractor catch pins and smooth out the interior holes.

Those seats are by far the best seats ever i agree. The leather seems to be much more durable as well and there is alot more support ... problem is they arent easy to find and are pretty costly right now i found a set of leather power driver pass for a grand ! cheapest ive seen so far.

Oh yeah... me too. They are pricey. Look for them over the next couple of years as people upgrade and/or total their trucks.

I saw a pair for $700 on eBay once. They wanted another $700 for the console/3rd middle seat. I don't want the console since I'll be building my own, but still, that price was ridiculous.

I'm wondering how the 07 Silverado's compare to the Corbeau and similar seats. I wish I could try-before-I-buy, like I have with the Chevy seats.

ive actually seen a couple rigs using the 3rd row seating from the youkons ect as the 2nd row in a k5 the seats looked like a perfect fit and have the seatbelts in the seat as well

Interesting. If I planned on keeping a back seat I'd probably do something like that.

Is that '07 Silverado seat available in vinyl? My friend has black leather in his, but I'd prefer the durability, easy-to-clean, cheapness of vinyl.

the 3rd seat in the 2nd row looks like a good option you can buy the seat mounting brackets and install them then you can click the seats in and out of the vehicle just like a new tahoe. Ive seen some vinyl here and there coming out of police tahoes ect on ebay.

Sounds like you've been looking for those and so am I. How much are a set of front and rear going for?

Well from a couple months of hunting craigslist and ebay an avg price for the 99-06 fronts was around 500 bucks plus 200 ish shipping the 3rd rows are all over the map seen em cheap 250's all the way to 700's the good news on the 3rd rows is theres a ton of em so might be able to find those local and save some dough.

i wound up buying some seats yesterday locally.. i had all but givin up on these seats due to the price 700's plus 200 shipping on avg these are from a 2004 pontiac gto they are dual power and heated pass, and driver.

one thing ill say over 2 months of looking nearly every day i found 1 set of black tahoe seats and they were bid up to 800 .. seriously the only colors out there are the grey and tan which i didnt want.

These gto seats to me looked really cool and looked like they would be both comfortable and keep my ass in the seats while bouncing all over ... they will require more fabwork and ill have to figure out mounting seatbelts but in the end i think its gonna look pretty cool!

If you are going to use the integrated seat belts with new seats, make sure the seats are very securely mounted to the floor - not just tack welded. If you had an accident, and the seats were just tack welded, You and your passinger will eat the windshield with your face. A relatively minor accident would cause major body injury. If your insurance investigates they may deny your medical costs blaming your neglagence.
