It could either be an illusion or those are the wrong size bolts for that shackle or the shackle holes are just so wore out that it appears the hole in the shackle is too big. At any rate, assuming that this is your 90 blazer those shackle bolts in factory form are supposed to be 1/2" unlike the earlier years that were 7/16" factory.

I see the same thing you do. Either those holes have been hammered larger from shot bushings, or the likely culprit is the wrong size bolts. Doesn't really matter, damage is done, fix it up right and forget about it. :)

Looking again, since the oblong portion is smaller diameter than the original bolt hole, I'm going to say they are undersized bolts.

That's what i was thinking and probably what caused the bolt to break in the first place. He needs to get an undamaged set of shackles new or otherwise and of course new bolts and start over. Obviously he needs to go with whatever size the bushing sleeve is this time around.

The bolts aren't broken, the nut backed out and the bolt started to do the same thing. The bolts fit the bushing sleeve as I went to Tractor Supply to match them up.

The holes in the shackle are bigger than the bolt (newb ignorance at the time being my first build :doah:). The holes aren't wallowed out but what was said above, I need to fix it right and go bigger (beefier) since they are the stock shackles.

Is there anywhere I can buy the spring bushings with larger diameter sleeves to eliminate this problem? FYI, the bolts on the top both shackles fit like they are supposed to, as are the front. Thanks for all of the insight so far guys.

Any place that sells bushings should be able to get the right ones for you.

IIRC my old BDS springs actually came with two sets of bushings, one for 7/16" bolts and one set for 1/2" bolts.

Your current bolt/bushing setup is 7/16", you need 1/2" bolts/bushings.

Those appear to be superlift springs with the way those bushings are so you need superlift number 315-88 which is the larger sleeves used on 88-91 blazer/burbs.

Good eyes on both parts guys. Thanks so much for the info. Y'all rock!!

While I was in the process of installing my new zero rates from JKW all the way around, I was able to locate some larger bushing sleeves locally. Now I've got 1/2" grade bolts in there with grade 8 nyloc nuts instead of the measly grade 5-7/16" bolts with lock washers. This will hold me until I can give Kert more money so I can relocate my front shackle hangars and put in longer shackles. :D

If those bolts are tight there is still something wrong as the bushings aren't tight against the springs. Maybe the sleeves you found are too long?

No they are tight, now. That pic was shot before I dropped it off of the jack stands. I tightened them down after I got the tires on and on the ground.

So now are you ready to go try it out? Wagener SC Oct 25th mud bog. I posted it on Carolina K5 also. Just to see if you were interested.
