OK Guys,
I have no clue as to what I need. I want to swap out my 400/350/203 to a 454/400/205. I have the 454/400 ready to go from a c30 but what do I need to be looking for in a 205. I read about the different splines, outputs, inputs, but I am clueless.

I have been checking the bone yards around here and no one has any. I plan on having it rebuilt when I find one but can't seem to locate one locally.

Also, how much should I expect to pay for one?

Any help would be great.
Thanks

You will need a Th400 from a K-series 4wd truck.A "C" series is 2wd and wont work unless you change the out-put shaft.

A 32 spline input 205 that was originally behind a TH400 is the one you will need.

As for prices they are all over the chart.Anywhere from a couple of hundred to a grand depending on condition and if they have been modified.

You gotta also watch the year it comes out of , most 205's after 1980 had a slip yoke , including big trucks . So you may need a driveshaft too .

Slip yoke is fine if your not crawling that Burb .

the 2wd 400 might work for a np205 case.... to make a long story short i brought a th400 into get rebuilt that origonally had a np208 behind it. and when i went to mount my 205 up to it the shaft was to short... brought it back to the trans shop to show them what was up. and i brought the 400 that the 205 came off of (had a cracked case) and he was going through his pile of output shafts and came to the conlusion that my th400 needed just a standard 2wd output shaft for me to run the 205.

I guess I need to get ahold of my transmission guy and ask him what to do. I plan on having him rebuild with a shift kit and HD sprag. I will also have the 205 rebuilt before I put it in. I just have to find one reasonable. We'll see what he says.

As long as you have the short tailshaft TH400, it will work, just unbolt the rear tailshaft housing with the 6 bolts. Also, you will have to find the older style NP205 with the figure 8 adaptor and the short 32 spline input, that will bolt right up to the short tailshaft 2WD TH400 if that's what you have.
