What nv4500?

So I have a 350/350 no transfer case, I would like to use the ord magnum, and a nv4500, how ever I'm going to switch to a 4 bt 8 valve next year, I e read I can swap a input gear on the nv 4500 but should I go with a dodge nv or a gm nv, will the bellhousing swap between the nv4500?

To use it as gas now and diesel later you will use a 96+ gm trans.
When you swap it you install the Cummins diesel input shaft and bellhousing and now you're all dodge up front.

I don't know if the 4bt will bolt up to the GM bell, but isn't the Dodge 4500 output a 29 spline?

The 4bt can be bolted up to the gm bell as is with the tilted sm465 bread truck adapter much like we swap sm465 and nv4500 with ease. The issue comes in with the gm small input shaft. It's ok until it's not and the 4bt is at the cusp of power output to cause an issue.
Also the gm adapters are pretty rare and cost more than OEM dodge parts.

Gm 4x4 is a 32 spline output and the dodge is 29. This is just as easy to bolt a magnum to it and really only lean on 32 spline so OP can use it now.

It's just as easy to find a dodge trans and convert the input to GM and use the GM bell and use the 29 spline magnum.


Gm is also not as susceptible to the 5th gear nut issues but that is also solved with a simple single part install.

So if I have this correct I can use a gm nv4500 from a 96 or newer and when I need to switch I can just change the input shaft to a dodge and use a 4bt to sm465 adapter plate?

Close.
You run it as all gm. Then switch the input and bellhousing to 94-02 dodge Cummins and use the 94-02 dodge cummins engine adapter plate.

Try and avoid the 465 parts. They are getting scarce and expensive.
