The visor on my '83 diesel parts truck shows SAE 30 is suggested above 0* C, and 15W40 down to -15* C.

I've been using Castrol RX Super 15w40 up till now. The next oil change with be SAE 30. I'm going to save the 15W40 for my winter oil change.

The low-sulphur diesel you get these days doesn't lubricate the injection pump adequately, shoterning its life. The additive provides the necessary lubrication, aids in separating water, prevents fuel gelling in winter, and boosts cetane value of fuel (for more power).

I was using the Stanadyne fuel additive since I got the truck (8 months ago). I ran out and couldn't find the Standyne again, so I'm using Gunk diesel additive now.

we run Mobil 1 Delvac- full synthetic in our Duramax-

No additives have ever been in any of our rig's...well- okay- we do run a fuel stabilizer in the winter months.

chevron delo-400 15w40
and also gunk diesel additive in the fuel.

anyone running redline products either in the fuel, or even thier water additive for cooling?

tons of guys at TDP are using Red Line additives.....

Cant say as though I know of anyone personally using them, but we dont have "old" diesels- and we dont normally keep them long enough to worry about longevity.

Just started running Delvac1, the local Traveller's America had it miss-priced as Delvac 1300! Something like 9 or 10 bucks a gallon, normally it's around 5 bucks a qrt.!

I bought all they had, 10 gallons of it! I only put about 10-15K a year on the Blazer and I shouldn't have no problems with this oil lasting all year. At the worst it should be good for 6 months. Really, it is one of the best oils out there. Good stuff.

I'll be running it for quite a while! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

well here in finland were I live it's temperature changes from 20 - 25 degrees centigrade in the summer to -20 degrees centigrade in the winter..although im running a 10W-30 oil and that works great.

Oil weight aside, make sure the oil you use is rated for diesel use - identified by CF/CG/CH service category instead of SG/SH/SJ. Its made to deal with extra soot/fuel that ends up in the oil of a diesel engine.

When I first got my diesel, I was going to use the 20W50 I had sitting around until I read the bottle and did some searches on the Web.

i use penzoil heavy duty 15w-40.. it seems good, dont use additives, but should i? what do they do?

Rotella T 15w-40 in the crankcase.

Power Service diesel fuel additive in the winter, to prevent gelling, and once in a while in the summer, to help clean the injectors.

Rotella T 15w - 40 in the crankcase. No additives in the oil, but Stanadyne in the fuel tank!!
