What oil from around the garage would be good for cutting 1/2” of threads?

I need to cut about 1/2” of 1/2-28 RH thread.

Once. That’s it. What oil/grease/lube found in your typical garage would work as a good cutting oil?

Just about anything will work. Heavy cutting oils I have used usually stink so probably something like gear oil would be good. I often use 30wt or whatever I had in my drilling can at the time. Keep backing the tap up, little bites like 1/4 turn at a time or less.

Yep, just use whatever you have around. I have used everything from proper cutting oil, to trans fluid.

I like using a thin oil so it allows the chips to fall through. Heavy oil needs to be blown out frequently.

Try bacon grease or lard, works great and smells delicious lol a lot of old timer machinist I know recommended it to me
