this part is clipped to the bottom of the steering colum it kinda looks like a amplifer it has a plug on both ends one plug looks like it goes to the steering colum.thanks again

Sounds like you are describing the ignition switch itself. The part your key goes into does nothing but pull a rod that actuates the actual switch itself.
