I see Lokar has some cool shifters, and then there is the B&M mega shifter with the taller base for trucks. I am converting to the auto so I don't have/want a column shifter. Pics would be great! Anyone build a console and put the shifter in there?

I have been looking at shifters too. I was going to originally get the B&M light truck mega shifter but after some research I am going to absolutely go with the Lokar 16" probably in the nostalga style shifter. After Yobtaf, member here, showed me a thread of the B&M light truck shifter is takes up A LOT of space on the tranny hump and just looks too much IMO. There is also another thread here on CK5 that shows the Lokar and it looks sweet. The install and linkage seems pretty nice too.

Here's the great link to the Lokar thread with pics.

And the thread and pics of the B&M shifter.

Hoby, thanx for hooking me up with some good threads. I did search but get frustrated w/ my dial up. The Megashifter is definately out now that I saw one in a truck. I like the fact that it is a ratchet shifter but it's ugly IMHO. I would like to see a Lokar installed with some seats so that I can get a feel for what it looks like and where the shifter really is. I have a 3" body lift to consider as well.

They are hard to find since they were dropped years ago , but I always wanted an H-Gate shifter . Made the autos have the traditional 3 or 4 speed H shift pattern .

Could stick a clutch pedal in just for looks :D

Is this a street queen or a trail rig? If your on the street, you cant go wrong with a ratchet shifter of some sorts. If its a trail rig, Art Carr all the way. I have the B&M quicksilver shifter in my rig now, its ok driving it on the street (especially since its manual valve body) but I can already tell that its going to suck on the trail. Going from 1st to reverse is a chore

Yeah, ryoken has a nice set up with his AC shifter and some very trick custom work to go with it. I'd do what Paul has done but I already spent the coin on a Tuffy plus not many of us don't have the skills to pull off what Paul did with his shifter.

Paul, how would you mount your shifter if you had a Tuffy and didn't want to cut the consel up. Would the AC be way too short if you mounted it to the tranny hump while wearing shoulder harness? My shoulder harness are what is leading me to be able to reach the stick and go with the Lokar. Thanks, Hoby

The Lokar stuff is pretty cool.. I STRONGLY looked at it before I went with the AC...

just wasn't exactly sure of what shifting/gates/stop setup the Lokar shifters had, and if it would be good for me...

I'm glad I went AC tho... freakin thing is bulletproof.. I removed my first gate down on the right side to make it more street-friendly, works killer..

as for mounting. the shifters ARE very narrow, so that can help... whether a Tuffy could be shifted back or over or something, to work, I'd have to look at it..lots of guys have bracketed, or cage mounted ones off the trans hump..

as for the Tuffy's... anything is possible, it's just how much work... ideally, I would guess without looking at one, the perfect location would be all the way in the front, left corner of the TUFFY...

I'm sure that would be some moderately extensive modding to an expensive console.. cutting out sections, new support walls, ribs, edges, etc...but I'm sure doable.. could be pretty sick looking... one that was a little dinged up and could used a repaint or something? sure why not..

or if it would fit, bolt it right to the side of the Tuffy, the mounting bolts come in from the side of the AC...

you can see the bolts on one side of mine, the other side of the shifter has the same config... actually my old one will be up for sale very, very soon...

yup, no clue on thread size, never took mine off.. i'm sure it's some standard knob size prolly...

i daily drive a reverse manual valve body with a hurst v-matic 2 shifter,and i love it

thats what I ran in every Chevelle, Cuda, Challenger, etc I ever built... love them suckers...

kinda why I'm a little anti-B&M, cuz I ran that Hurst and thought it blew em away... well, used to be Mr.Gasket back in the day...

Look at a B&M uni-matic....... I have one and love it, no stupid rachet shifter gates, hold your nose and pull your ear and hope it goes in reverse :D. There are detents for all gears, I will admit there's no indicator, but if a person knows what is going on I don't think you should have any problems.

the lower ratchet shifter mode on those Hursts is sick.. just bash it forward or back for 1 gear at a time.. awesome in a street car, but I thought gates in a truck would be better for myself...

I'm just not sold on B&M quality most times... I've seen some pretty cheesy stuff out of them over the years...

This truck will be a trail rig. I guess I didn't think to much about going from 1st to Rev. with the ratchet style shifters. How about with the gate shifters? Any experience with the difference between the cable shifters and the shifters that are mounted to the tranny? (like lokar)
