Intake, carb and exhaust...

Also see Classic Parts of America for your window seals

You could try a throttle body spacer, aftermarket exhaust, k&n air filter. Or just take that 305 out and throw in a 350:wink1:. that'll get the job done for sure.
Try here for those seals http://www.lmctruck.com/

Just do basic's, intake, carb, exhaust, anything that can be bolted onto a 350, although people will tell you that the 305 isn't a good motor, they run very well, and with money can be made beastly, but a 350 is always a better motor in the end, with the mods you do to the 305, you can bolt them onto the 350 later on. Have fun.

Attach a chain to it. All a 305 is good for is a boat anchor. :D

Seriously, it would be cheaper to install a new 350 crate engine than try to improve power in a 305 without breaking the bank.

Make sure it's in good tune. Plugs, wires, vacuum lines, etc.

Nothing really wrong with a 305, except the size and inherent design issues. Without tons of money, it's pretty hard to "wake up" in a truck, the engine is too small for this large of a vehicle.

Biggest bang for the buck IMO for a 305 equipped truck is gearing. If yours are 3.08's (common and likely) then swapping to a numerically higher ratio will make all the difference in the world.

Going from 3.08s to 4.11s made my 305 a rocket ship in comparison.

I had a 305 in my 84 K5, and it was nice for DD, but for towing or anything fun it was not fun. I switched mine out for a 383, it should be done by Easter.

x2. always thing ahead to the day when you add more cubes. 305 isn't a terrible engine, just not the best choice from gm.

cam swap, cs1062r at www.northernautoparts.com it will wake that 305 up, also a performer rpm intake,or just a performer, and some headers, also if you could take the heads off and do a diy exhaust valve cleanup, that would be the best mod ever to a 305, im runnin 305 heads on my 327, they lack the top end from the get go put a little porting in them and its a good effiecient head, the exhaust port is the killer, the 305 took my 83 camaro into the 7.9s range in the 1/8th mile which is way fast for a 305

though the 305 is not my choice of engines, I have nothing bad to say about them. hell right now I would love to have one. Ive got 3 trucks and none of them have a motor.:( Id use a 250 inline six if I could find one in good shape.

as far as 305s go, there is a guy I work with that has an 81 with 35s and stock 3.08s. he built a 305 with a big cam, ported heads, headers and an aluminum intake that will smoke the tires without power braking it.

the only real problems I see with them is like was said, they lack the cubes to make a lot of power and I was looking at rebuild kits, since Im gonna have to rebuild my motor, I can get a kit with everything I need to do a basic re-ring and replace bearings in a 350 for $120. the cheapest one for a 305 was about $250.:eek1:

My solution: Drive a 99 Nissan Frontier with a four banger and auto tranny around for a while, then the 305 will feel like a big block, baby!:D :woot:
