Like it says. Keep in mind that I am a mechanical idiot and will rely heavily on friends or a shop to get work done.

My Blazer now:

89 K5
mildly modded 350 (milder cams, manifold upgrade)
3 inch exhaust thru magnaflow muffler
brand new 700R4 (HD, kevlar clutches, etc)
3inch front 4inch rear spring lift (Tuff Country)
33x12.50x15 Daytona M/T's on Rockkrawlers

Where would you guys put the thousand bucks?
I'll be getting it in December.

A Dana 60, what else is there...? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'de say some sort of armor, like new bumpers or rocker guards. Maybe a winch w/ a new front bumper (Now i'm porjecting my wants onto your list, oops /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif)

And as i'm sure many others will say "or you could just give it to me /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Maybe invest in some mutual funds or put it in your IRA /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif ...sure would make a better return then investing in your truck...

Yah, I know, problem is this:

I am currently running 10bolts F and R. So if I were to pick up 1-ton axles, which I MIGHT be able to get for a grand, I would still need to get new wheels and tires to fit 'em. Plus, I have no freakin idea how to do an axle swap and what other little stuff that comes with it (brake lines, brakes, spring perches, X-over, etc).

Right now I'm thinking the 1-ton stuff will be next year. I'll probably buy the axles with my tax return and the tires and wheels with next years X-mas check. I have wheeled these 10bolts pretty hard and never had a problem, I'm hoping they'll give me one more year...

Put it into your retirement fund or buy some stock in a underpriced materials company.

I did actually think about putting into stock from a company like FMC or AM General or maybe an ammo company. War is good for the economy if you invest right...

you could buy an 14FF for cheap. and buy an 8-6 lug adapter for it, so you wont have to buy new rims. Tonyp makes them, you could PM him to see how much they cost.

a winch would be a good thing and some of them friends that don't have one should be happy to help install it and call when they need your help. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Get two lockrights and spend the rest on crossover steering. It'll get you going for now without swapping any axles.

I think my first thought would be a winch, and maybe do a hidden mount behind the bumper. If that's too much fab, I know there's someone selling a Warn winch bumper in the parts forum.

My other thought is lockers. But if you really plan to swap axles that may be throwing money away. Of course you could probably sell them later, but you going to loose a little money. If you are going to stick with the 10bolts for quite a while longer then go with lockers over the winch.

How about some new diff covers. (at least on the rear)/forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Of course, you do need to get that fan and alternator fixed so you can go wheelin!

Buy some $150 used lockers for the 10 bolts and find a used 9000lb winch. Spend the rest in beer until next december. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

or, spend it all on beer and ride with someone that has lockers and a winch /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Throw a big ass party... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

if u are going to upgrade your axles, dont spend a penny of that $1k on them... you'll just be pissed at yourself later... trust me, I know.

If i was you, I'd spend a few bucks to get a ff14b rear and wheel adapters and put the rest in a savings account until you're ready to get the D60. Spending $ on lockers, gears, x-over steering parts etc etc for half ton poop makes no sense at all at this point of your buildup.
