What should I do with this car?

My buddy's wife's '03 Taurus is broken. I'm pretty sure something came apart in the tranny so now it's just sitting. They got her a new car and need to get rid of this one. I called a junkyard for him and they said $400... but I'm wondering if it would be worth my time and effort to pick up a junkyard tranny, swap them, and sell the car. The tranny and a few dents is really all that's wrong with the car, it still runs great. What say you fellas?:confused:
 
an new trans makes it worth oh, 1500? I say you'd about break even, given a 400 trans and the time it takes to put it in. However, if you planned on using it as a commuter, might not be a bad idea. Ive heard they are pretty nice to drive and other than trannys, they are reliable.

X2 they aren't worth to much money unless they have really low miles.
 
That's kinda what I was thinking. They really aren't bad cars, I drove one the last two weekends, 4 hours to Destin, FL and back. If I owned one I'd buy it for parts... oh well guess he's S.O.L. because he still owes money on it.:doah::haha:
 
sell it on craigslist I bet you get more than 400.00 that the junkyard is offering
 
craigslist might get you $750, that car being an 03 is worth more than $1500. more like $2500, if you wanted to sell it quick.

Now, the transmission, you need to drop the subframe, and get an engine holding assembly because the mounts attach to the subframe, I have done ~ 10 transmissions on taurus', and can have 1 out in 45 minutes now, but I know which bolts and what size to take them out. someone that had never done one expect at least a weekend to get it done.
 
They aren't bad cars, trany's seem to be an issue but I think a lot of that is due to poor maintenance.

I hate driving the one I use for work(well I only run it once a week to keep it from sitting), but that's because getting in and out of it is a chore doing 30-40 stops a shift. I'm a big dude and I don't fold up well.

I was just browsing through threads I started and forgot to finish this one. He ended up talking to a local tranny shop and the guy offered him $900 and he took it. He still owes money on the damn thing and picked up a new car and note. Young people and their spending habits.:doah:

i have a 05 taurus with 58k on it i tried to trade the thing in on a 2009 civic and they told me it isnt worth but like 2k cause off all the fleets that purchased taurus and ford mad too many and floded the markets with them .... so i say either part it out or sell to junk yard or burn it to the ground for fun
