Im gonna build a trail only truck in about a year..dont know if i wanna go caddy or diesel ir just big block...also its prolly gonna be on rockwells...its gonna have 42s or 44s just havnt gotten to that point yet..its gonna be an all out trail rig to get beat to death...should i trash this blazer or buy another in a year???gimme suggestions...oh and its missing the fenders, grille and a few other items...its basically just a cab and frame right now...

IMO i'd go big block..as for rockwells and tire size i'd go 49" eh keep the blazer, something cool..

suggestions IMO
454 bb
turbo 400 trans beefed up
205/203 twin sticked
driveshafts same length front and rear (good for spare parts and such)
full cage
trail or mud truck? if i did a trail i'd do a 10" and mud i'd go 14" or 16"
beadlocks bc the last thing you wana do is rebead a huge tire...
coil overs
custom chassis to take a beating
flat bed/tools built in!

not sure what else.

the axles and transfer case and tires will be were the motor is...i will be reusing a lot of parts laying around...and it will still be leaf sprung...im gonna do a cool build but on the cheap as much as possible..

why not stick with 1tons since its only going to get 42's or 44's? i dont think you are really going to need the 6.72 ratio from the rocks unless you are going to run 49's. rocks are pretty cheap tho so i see that as a positive, guess thats part of your motive.

only wanna buy axles once...to get the gear ratio out of a set of 1 tons i would cost alot more to build them and also the weak point would be the pinion 4 sure with a 6.72 to 1 ratio (or something similar)in a set of 1 tons...also i might run 54 inch michelens if i get them at the right price..but that is a little to large..

i say keepit....

well if yer gonna go 53's possibly... yeah rocks all the way... however I wanted to run miches years ago.... had 12" susp and 3" bl going with rocks and 53" michellins.. glad I didnt.. I hear they are SUPER heavey... really thick sidewall and not a great tire...

since it is going to be a trail only truck.... if for mud.. id say go with tractor tires.... waaay better in mud!!! :wink1:

with that big a tire, you might want longer wheelbase, but i guess if you push the axles out 3-5" out front and rear you would be fine

im gonna build it not to be great at one thing but to be ok at everything..

then skip the rocks. get a set of 1 tons, a doubler, and run some 42's. keep in mind you need to get it too the trail. rockwells are heavy, so are 52" michelins.

What are you going to do with the suburban? its hard enough keeping one trail rig running, let alone 2 and a tow rig.

well i took this truck off the trailer last night and i dont think it will be going back on...it needs to much and just dont have a place to put it...i think i will be calling the kidney fonduation to pick it up...

i want to sell the burb eventually but who knows if i keep it forever im gonna make it like mt mikes truck..but its all talk right now...my dd is about to break down so thats gonna take the biggest hit on me right now..

Build the truck up man. If you think it is that messed up then you will have nothing to lose when you wheel it.
