I have some small extinguishers now that I keep in my trucks and I wonder if they are big enough?

They are dry chemical, 1-A, 10-B, C

I have done some reading on these and think I may need something bigger. What would be a good size to get?

I am looking for a good deal on a 5 bls Halon or CO2 unit myself. Much cleaner if you ever use it.

I keep two in my truck, one is very small mounted on the tranny hump, just to get everyone out and a 10 lb bottle is mounted in the bed, hopefully the guy behind me will see the problem and while I'm getting the familly out he can try to save the truck.

5 Lbs is probably enough, but if you want bigger it surely does not hurt. I'd get one that's an A,B,C just to cover the basics.

Does 5 lbs refer to the amount of extinguishing agent? The ones I have now are 2 lbs, 3 oz.

Yes, it's usually marked pretty clearly.

Extinguishers don't have to be real big... they just need someone who is willing to get in there and make good use of them. So, smaller can work too.. especially for an engine compartment fire.

BTW, vehicles don't explode like they do in the movies. So, if you need it, don't be skittish.. just put out the fire. ;)

:haha: :haha: :haha: and thanks for the advice.

No problem..

Some of the highlights of my day are watching rookies jump every time a tire pops or an airbag goes off. :p:

:haha: :rotfl: :woot:

After hearing about a friend of a friend's RX-7 burn down on I95 a few months ago, that's my new plan. He had a small bottle and apparently wasn't afraid to get in there and use it (singed all the hair on his hands and forearms), but the bottle ran out just before the flames died....

I got 2 5lb ABC's in my toolbox, one on each side. That way either I or passenger can get to it, and I have key to toolbox on the keyring thats in the ignition, and another on the spare set of keys in my pocket.

Jc whitney is selling some cheap with orders right now. Not sure the lbs. I got my crew cab carpet from them and the extinguisher as well. Like 12 bucks or something like that.
