Can someone tell me what size socket fits the drain and fill plugs on a NP208 Transfer Case in my 87 K5? Thanks

Don't know the size since I've always used a large Crescent wrench with no problems.
I *stink* the '208's are the same as the '241... anybody? Bueller?
On my '241 I couldn't get an adjustable on it was the head is so low-profile and the corners are rounded /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I am told that a 1 3/16" socket will fit it, but I seem to recall that 30mm is the actual size -- considering they're within .006" of each other I think either would do /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As far as I know, they are different. Tried a Crescent on a 241 and wouldn't work, but on my 208 I regularly use one.

it is a 30mm I jsut went and looked in the garage at the socket. Only reason I have that blasted size lol.

Holy crap, this thread is 6 years old. The proper size socket though is a 30mm and the 208 and 241 are the same size.
The fill plug also has a very "thin" hex,so it might be best to use a 6 point socket the first time!..one on my NP208 was REAL tight and someone boogered it up,probably used an air impact on it...there is a lip on the case that might not let a thick walled socket go on it good though,so you may want to use a thinner socket rather than a thick one like an impact socket..I had to use a 1-1/8" socket on my fill plug,but it probably was 1-3/16 to start off!..

After being misinformed by another thread I can assure you 1 3/16 is not the size. I'll be returning that and picking up a 30mm on the way home tonight.

I know this thread is old, but maybe someone can help. Yes the fill plug on a 208 and 241 are hte same size - 30mm. However, that is rounded off and still stuck tight. It looks like there is an 8 point torx bit (double square?) hole in the center of the fill cap that is very large. Does anyone know what size bit will fit that and where i can get one? Also, would applying heat help get it off?
Tap on the plug first before trying to remove it.
I had to use an impact to get mine off!! dont over tighten it!
Ignoring any possible issues the heat may cause to other components, I'm a convert to welding something to stuck fasteners that allows me to get that fastener off instead of trying to work around it, or drill out, or use an ez-out, etc., IF the item is truly stuck. Nut welded to the head of a bolt mainly. Heck, I've welded pipe as a handle onto a bolt that I wasn't afraid of breaking.
Probably wouldn't want to break the case, but leverage is a fascinating discovery.
Its pound for feet better than inches..
