i got my hands on a 86 M1009 CUCV from a buddy for $1500. i was wonder what size lift i would need for 31's. it is still the stock army 24 volt setup and i plan on keepiing it that way. im planning a bumper build soon and a 24volt warn winch. i got some really good ideas from this site. best $25 i have spent. any help would be great

31s u shouldnt need a lift at all, atleast i havnt in the past. heck i put 38.5s on with no lift, but there was no fenders left either, but 31s should fit without any issues.

nice looking truck by the way.

great thanks for the help. im starting the rock sliders this week and hopfully the bumper in 2 weeks

silly question maybe, but both my 87 and 85 came with 31s on them the 87 that was the stock size for sure, 74 came with 30x9s or something what is the stock size on that?

o i have a 4in lift and i clear 35s, some ppl say u need to trim with a 4 in lift but i havnt had any issues.

There are a lot of threads dedicated to this (see The Garage) and the reality is that there are too many variables to know FOR SURE what to tell you. I depends on how flexy the suspension is, the backspacing and width of the wheels, the brand of 35 inch tires (some are as small as 34" in reality) etc, etc, etc.

I think in general you can run 35's with a 4 inch lift and the only problem will be the bottom back corner of the front fenders. If you're already planning rock sliders, I'm guessing you'll use this truck off road enough that you can either let the tire rearrange that corner (I see that a lot) or you can do a very minor trim. With 8 inch wheels (rather than 10 or 12 (gah!)) and moderate backspacing (usually 4 or 4.5 inches) you might even get away with no trimming.

i would rather do some triming. i do drive it alot so i dont plan on beating it up real bad, but most people say the say thing till the fun starts

What size lift....

I have a 1991 with 4 Inch lift and no trimming. It is a Rough Country lift with plenty of clearance to fit my 35 inch tires. Keep in mind, all lifts are made different, so the actual height may differ.

Save yourself the headache of having to go back and redo the lift. put a 6 inch suspension lift and you can just add a body lift later. Just trying to save you some time. :D that way you can just skip to 40's or 42's:haha::haha:

Bah, 3" Tuff Country lift and 1" zero rates to move the front axle forward 1.5". 35's won't rub then. If you need more space after that throw on a 1" ORD body lift and cut.

There's guys running 44's with 4" of lift and cutting and the trucks still look somewhat like they should.
