What size pipe???

What size pipe should I go with for my duals to run my headers through, I went to a local muffler shop and I asked for the 21/2" pipe and the guy said "why do you want 21/2s" I say well for more air flow and more power the damn guy laughed at me he said that 21/4" is the same as 21/2s is this true, would I get the same torque and power with both sizes the price is the same for either one what would you guys recommend thanks by the way I'm going with Flowmaster 40s

The customer is always right......go somewhere else to get your 2 1/2" pipe.

Large diameter pipes primarily help wit high RPM horsepower. Fow low end torque, it's actually preferable to go with a slightly smaller pipe size. I have a 2-1/4" dual kit from Dynomax and have planty of power for my needs. It basicly comes down to personal preference and cost. I think that you'll probably be happy with any size dual exhaust over 2".
 
I think 2.25 pipe would be plenty for your truck unless you have a 500 horse mud bogger. Blazers are usually slow and heavy and could use the torque more. I have 2.25 inch pipes on mine with the Flowmaster 40's...I love it. Some people might say its too loud, but its good for me.

I've got the 2.5" duals with Flowmasters. You will have a couple of places that the exhaust will restrict depending on how you plan to install system. Most shops do not have mandrel bent tubes, so you end up with restrictions at the bends. So you might consider these restricted areas when designing your system....just a thought..
 
My exhaust was done with 2" pipe. I had some flex pipe with cherry bombs and now I have full exhaust exiting behind tires with turbo mufflers. It actually runs better now with more backpressure. Unless you have a extremely built motor you don't need a big exhaust.

I agree with most; you will get better torque out of smaller pipe, but you will get a deeper more mellow sound with larger pipes.
 
first off, that title kinda got me. i thought this was a pot thread!
anyway...
the reason the guy said that the two sizes are the same is probably due to the fact that different industries measure things differently. you were talking outer diameter, he was talking inner diameter.
or he was just a dick.

This thread helps me out quite a bit. So far I think I'll probably go with 2 1/2" pipe and Flowmaster. Hmmmm......Blazers being big and slow?!?! YEP!! HAHAHA When up to speed they are sometimes difficult to stop too!!
