So it's that time to help out my dad on his property in exchange for firewood.

We have some trees that are down and this time, some stumps to drag up the hill. I have searched the forums and found some good info.

I have a tree saver, a tow strap, clevis D-rings, frame mounted recovery points....I have some 5/8" synthetic rope but no winch/wire winch line.

I figured I could double my pulling power by using a pully...

What size snatch block should I buy? I see many sizes, but not sure which one I need. If I'm pulling with a 74 Blazer (no doors, no top) and dragging a 700 lb stump up the hill, I'm not sure how to calculate that. I tried reading the recovery bible on Pirate....

Any other equipment I missing?

Thx in advance.

go to a tractor supply, they are like $40.

Ughhh thousands of pounds of pressure is not something I would want to trust from tractor supply.

The rule with snatch blocks is that they have to be double your winches rating. You dont use 10,000lb block on a 10,000lb winch, you use a 20,000lb block.

For reference: Mile Marker 26k military issue. Good for up to 3/8 line. Comes with with the new 12k up-armor HMMV's that have the hydraulic winches.

If the trees are already down and you're just pulling them then go for it. I seriously doubt you'll need anything more than some good straps.
If you had to pull the stumps out that's another situation but from what I read in your first post it sounds like they're already down.

I've drug some pretty big stuff over the years with my k10 and k3500 with nothing more than d-rigs and good straps.

same as above...if ur jus pulling the debris, u dont need a snatch block...a good strap/rope capable of the wieght is efficent enuff...as far as the snatch blocks n the links above, if u used a 30,000# block on a warn 16,500# winch u would exceed the rated capacity of the listed snatch block by 2500#'s (16,500# x2=32000#):dunno::what: or am i missing sumthing there???

You'd be exceeding it by 3000lbs (16,500x2=33,000). But you are only pulling at the max rate when there is only one wrap of cable on the winch drum. For each wrap layer you are reducing your pull capacity by a certain percentage. With the second layer you are down to 15279 lbs.

I believe line capacity is affected also.
