What size tire for my \'90 Burb?

I'm soon to put tires/wheels on my 1990 3/4 ton Suburban. It is completely stock (95k original miles) with a 10 bolt front and a 14 bolt rear (8 lug 16" wheels). 350 tbi and .410 gears.

Sugestions/experiances with tires? I am looking at either 35's or 37's but don't want to cause more problems than I cure. I also plan on lifting the truck at least 6 inches with a suspension lift.

I will spend a lot of time on the highway driving to/from camping, so I am looking at radials.

Suggestions?

Re: What size tire for my \'90 Burb?

My 35's fit fine with 4" of lift....

With 37's, you will probably want more gear too, if you have an OD trans. I think the 37's and a 4.10 gear will make OD useless if you want the tranny to live. 5.13's would work well with that combo, really....

I have 3.42's turning my 35's, and never use OD. I am switching to 4.56's and will only use OD when going quickly down an interstate.

If it were me I would run 35" muds. If your doing a lot of highway driving I wouldn't go to much bigger.

I use to be one of the few who claim no front end damage while wheeling with bigger then 35's on a 10 bolt but not any longer. I messed up one of my axle shafts on my last excursion so if you want reliablitly I would say 35's.

I second that!

If you spend a lot of time on the road, I'd stick to a 4inch and 35's. Otherwise, you'll need to re-gear, and with 6 inches, you'll probably need some driveline mods.

I've got a 91 Burb, 4.10 gears, 350, 4L80E trans (overdrive) and stock suspension. I went with BFG Mud Radials 255 85R 16, 33.3" tall, 10" wide. They clear fine, no lift or trimming. The truck is a little doggish, but a 350 in that size truck is gonna be that way.

I'd go with either 35s or 37s, probably 35s because they're much cheaper.

4.10s without overdrive will pull 37s if you want, but in a heavy truck, I'd go with 35s.

Re: What size tire for my \'90 Burb?

Go with 35s and regear to 4.56s! If you don't you will hate those bigger tires. My sub was 3.73 and with 33's it was a dead dog! With 4.10s and 35s you would have about the same effective gearing.

If you don't do much mudd running then BFG ATs are good tires.

I also run Wild Country TXRs on my PSD and they are really nice tires too, plus less money than most.

with no overdrive and running between 36's and 39's what's a good choice in gears?

I have 4.56's and 35's and it sucks driving down the highway. I will probably swap my 3.73's in instead. He said he has a 3 speed like what I have, no OD. 4.10's and 35's will work ok.

or is it "My 35's fit fine with 4" of lift and fender trimming"....?

I have about 9" to 10" of lift and no trimming and still rub the front fenders when flexing. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

They fit fine with no trimming. Of course The Mall /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif is not really very challenging. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Kind of waiting til the axles are in and a spare tranny or two /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Re: What size tire for my \'90 Burb?

i put 235/85 16's on my 90 burb same engine tranny combo as you. the tires are close to 33" tall. my rpms are 4000 at 65mph it sucks! i thought about 35's but didn't want to lift it till my other truck is done. my 67 does have 35's 410 gears and a th400 also. i haven't put a tach on it but highway rpms are much better! there is a formula for figuring rpm with tire diameter maybe someone has it handy? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
