Like the title says, I'm helping my brother begin planning the up coming LS swap in his 89 gran waggy. He's going to be using a 03 6.0 and trans from a 2500hd, the factory t case is just to big physically to fit between the rails so we are looking for options. The rig is going to be a do it all truck, not a crawler, or anything crazy but a family wheeler , camping truck and sometime DD with a max tire size of 35" . As with any project these days, he is looking for somewhat simple and cheap, so an ATLAS would not be a reasonable option :D
So what are some options ?

You can get 32 spline NP241's. Good strength, good gearing, cheap factory parts. I'd look into one.

Any 32 spline np208 or np241 will bolt right up to a late model transmission. I have problems finding 32 spline cases as they only came in a few years and havent lucked up on one in the salvage yards or craigslist

Btw a np208 or 241 will hold up to some pretty crazy power and abuse. IF!!! you brace the case correctly. the biggest problem they have is cracking due to vibration and being unsupported. if you can fabricate at all you will be ahead of the game by adding a second crossmember to support the back of the case.

Agreed, I found one sitting on a shelf at a wrecking yard a few weeks ago, had VSS sensor for my LS swap as a bonus. I paid $150, I was as giddy as a schoolgirl

I was thinking along those lines , so , it's good to have it confirmed :waytogo:

Now, what trucks and year spreads should he (well mostly me:doah:) be looking for ?

Thanks guys

Those would be pass side drop and early ones are 208's , I need drivers side. So I believe that one would be found in IFS trucks , not sure on the years and models though.
