What timing set? Chain-vs-Gear drive

carb, sure, run a gear drive....

EFI, till someone can prove to me the harmonics don't mess with the knock sensor, a nice double roller...

To all you guys recomending gear drive..... WTF does anyone need with gear drive with a stock or mild build engine???? if you aint going to see over 5k rpm. Gear Drive Total waste of money IMHO. They are noisy and the whine really gets on your nerves after a while. And sounds really dumb on a stock engine.
Also it will mess with the knock sensor. I dont care what summit says. You will be driviing around with the timing retarded all the time. So dont be retarded..................
Just get a good double roller timing set like I recomended. The Cloys HD double roller set will prolly last longer than your engine. Might be a good time to think about replacing the water pump if yours is old. That would stil be a lot cheaper than a gear drive:rolleyes:

I shoulda added, carb, sure run a gear drive IF YA WANT..

I wasn't intending to recommend one... More just playing devils advocate to the post above mine.. I certainly don't care for being refered to as a retard when nothing you espoused was new to me...

Sorry Paul I was not refering to your post at all. I replied to Redymixes post. And was trying to discourage him from a gear drive if he was interested in one.
I was not calling anyone a retard. Sorry if I came off that way.
I was refering to knock sensors retading the timing in a joking way:D
Its just that TBI and gear drives dont mix unless you program the knock sensor out.
Your post clearly sez Carb. And you recomended a double roller for EFI

Again, Knock sensor + gear drive = bad. It doesn't take much to irritate a knock sensor.

My 69 Camaro came with a gear drive on it, and even the quiet ones are obnoxiously loud. IMO, if you want blower whine, add a blower. The noisy ones are loud enough that you can't hear the exhaust- even a loud exhaust.

A basic Cloyes roller will get the job done, as well many of the other name brand sets, for under $50.

Damn, don't get all worked up.
I don't want a gear drive....Vortec brought it up, I replied with the knock sensor thing and the thread went all to hell.

Why the hell would I sink even more money into my stock 305 just so it could make more noise and annoy me even more?? It's not even a 350....

I am going to get the Cloyes HD roller set.
Also the complete gasket set. What I am finding is that Summit does not list the whole kit along with the speedi sleeve for my motor. I know they are available though.
I need to finish tracking down all the part numbers I need.
