I really don't know which forum this belongs in, but here goes.

A co-worker just converted his riding lawn mower over to electric. He's offered to just give me the 18hp motor that was on it previously because it was making a noise. It still runs so I'm assuming it can't be too bad so I'm going to grab it.

The thing is, what the hell do I do with it? Make a go-cart? Something else? I need project ideas people! :D

Let me buy it from you :D. Our lawnmower started smoking the other day.

That said yes go cart with one of those round cages so it will roll. I will come down and bring my tube roller to help as long as I get to drive when it's done

No,don't use a newer OHV B&S engine on anything that flies..:eek1:
--they like to pop head gaskets, have top end troubles with push rods jumping off, rocker arm studs like to pull out, valve guides slip out of place too--and rods often break on the RH cylinder...use one on earth only ,unless you like death wishes..

They are good for home made log splitters, portable hydraulic pump power systems,go karts, pressure washers, home built tractors,or maybe you could rig up a hi amp alternator to one and use it to charge low batteries,or make a weldenator out of it...

I knew a guy who mounted a 2 cylinder Wisconsin in a small 10x10 shed and used it to heat it years ago--ran the exhaust out through a hole in the tin siding, leaving 6 feet of pipe exposed inside the shed, with the muffler mounted close to the engine, right in the path of the air blowing out of the engine's fan on the flywheel...it'd get the place toasty in about 10 minutes!..

He eventually rigged up a GM alternator to it and an inverter so he could power woodworking tools and lights with it too..had it belt driving a old Rockwell belt/disc sander and table saw too..his work shed was way out behind his house,it was easier than running electric wires to it..

Don't worry, I don't have any intention of trying to fly with ANYTHING built by me. :eek1:

That would be my 2nd option, although Ashman might not want to try and float on anything he makes, either. lol
