what to do with a truck that has been sitting for 15 years. pics added

It would be fords weird ttb setup. D44 chunk in the 1/2 tons. I had a '94 F250 for awhile. It had a ttb D50. Basically a 9" ring gear with sorta D60 outers. (d44= 8.5) Weird lookin thing. 3 piece axle shaft on one side.

Some info I found on Pirate- (d50)

The hubs & stubs are 30 spline, but so are the inner shafts, and have neckdowns similar in size that stock D44 shafts have.
The axlejoints are unique to that axle (not sure the Spicer #). They are in between the size of D44 joints and D60 joints (and would probably place somewhere between them for strength as well). They do use external clips on the u-joint caps though (like on driveshafts), so you won't see the cap-spitting problems common on 44s.

Overall its stronger than the 44, but nothing close to a 35 spline D60.

That 50 could be made quite strong if someone made alloy shafts for it, but I've yet to see any TTB offerings from anyone yet myself.

Sorry, i meant i was wondering about teh 2wd system. I realize the 4x was TTB

i heard tell you can swap in 78-79 solid dana 44 front ends in to them vary easy.

some guys on letsplow.com use them all stock with 31" tires to plow. and to keep the front up thay use a specific year/model f350 coil. thay can pickup a 8ft plow and basicly no sag. :eek1:

78-79 d44 fits very easily, but I believe a 4 inch lift needs to be included into the swap because otherwise the axle will hit the engine crossmember. The ttb isn't that weak, it will handle 35s as long as you aren't really hard on it.

Damn Ford makes an ugly engine/compartment. More rubber hoses in there than an ICU.
