Ok, need some help fellas................I'm going to build again but need to figure out which rig to build. I've got these two to play with.
Rig A. 81 1/2 Ton reg cab long bed with 6" lift, 350 motor, sm465 tranny, np208, body is rough.

Rig B. 1974 3/4 Ton Suburban, np 203, sm 465 tranny, Newer crate 350, body rough.

I have 3 sons who like to go wheelin with me, IF I built the Suburban I would Boat side it, Hummer cut the rear and attempt to bob the rear overhang a bit. I built a Burban before and hated the length when I got it off-road. Benefits to the Burban are........fit my family, crate 350 runs awesome, already has 14 bolt rear and I would only need to source a dana 60 for the front. The Long bed 1/2 ton would only need 1 ton axles and it would be a capable wheeler........so in short the 1/2 ton would need less work and it would be lighter and shorter to wheel BUT I'd have no room. The Burban is all stock and I would need to rob the 6" lift from the 1/2 ton, get a dana 60 and then do all the sheet metal "upgrades" ha ha. Oh yeah, the Burban is my plow truck so I'd have to wait till spring to start Mods and build up. I'm thinking go with the Burban, take OFF plow unit, put plow on 1/2 ton, put stock burban springs in 1/2 ton and have the half ton be the plow rig and Build, hack, frankenstein the Burban into a monstah!

Burbs rock!:thumb: I was wheeling a longbed, but now have a burb for the family after they complained about the Cherokee (my other wheeler) being too crowded.

ey

Well I just got the 81 the other day from a young girl. There was no battery and it was sitting in a snowbank so I couldnt actually hear it run but she told me very honestly that she swore that the motor ran very strong and that her dad had built it for her. The body is in rough shape however. Anyway, I get it home and the other day i decide to throw a battery in it. It hadnt run in over a year she said. Anyway, I cranked it a few times and low and behold that thing roared to life!. It even idled nice and has awesome throttle response. Its got headers and some kinda Cam. Anyway, I took it for a test drive and that motor has some serious A**!!. Anyway, that makes me want to build around this motor now and NOT scrape and part out the truck. Now I'm thinking fix the body up, new fenders etc etc and throw on some nice 35's and have a fun toy NOT made for hardcore off road. I will build the Suburban for hardcore wheeling I've decided.

The 85 Diesel Rust free arrow straight K5 in my garage for the last year , make you a screaming deal, I'll even throw in some 3/4 ton axles.

I want/need some Military Michlins like what Jonnywick runs on his buggy

You posted in the burban section so you already want to do the burb and are asking burban guys for advice. Do the burb I say.

hey

Yes, the burb will be built, but I will bob the rear and probably hummer cut it. I want a crew cab with a short bed in essence. I've got some pretty good ideas fom this site from other guys who have done this.

I'm planning on dropping a crewcab on 1 of my burb frames and put a flatbed behind it. Just throwing out another option.
