Now that I've got my truck back together I'm not liking my driveshaft angle and it is causing my 208 transfer case to leak. I was going to get a new shaft made but I figured if I'm going that route I might as well replace the transfer case first. What are my options for a better case that will bolt in or require minimal mods? I plan to put a sye on it to help my angle before getting a new driveshaft.

NP241 uses the same adapter as 208 and shiftier, but with mechanical speedometer is 1989 only.

241 is a direct swap for the most part harder to find but out there . stronger than a 208 in my opinion . and sye kit for the rear is very common to get .

If I go junk yard shopping, what vehicles should I look for? Haven't found any 241s in any local listings.

1989 Blazer, Jimmy or suburban. 1990-91 is electronic speedometer. If 700R4 needs 27 spine input. If 400 need 32 spline input.

Thanks. That should be easy to find around here! Maybe I'll get lucky.

After doing more research, I'll think I'll run it as is for now and start acquiring parts for a one ton swap and a 205 instead of spending money twice when I plan on one tons at some point. Thanks for all the info.

Really? I was under the impression the chain made it inferior. I did read on Here somewhere that it has a better low gear but I thought I read they had more issues leaking and such.

2.72 low as opposed to 1.96 for 205. It weights about 85 pounds as opposed to the NP205 of 140 pounds. It is still in use today, The down side is rocks are not friendly.
The 203 was chain driven and weight a ton.

The chain in a 241 has no comparison to the 203. The 203 rightfully got a bad rap because of the fulltime 4wd. 241 doesn't kill chains nearly as fast. Most 241's in the yard probably have less than 1000 4wd miles on them.

241 vs 205 is debatable on superiority also depends what u use it for , mud guys love 205 and it will handle more hp
rock crawlers love 241. i like my 205 . yes it is heavy but it is strong as hell

Or just get an SYE and shaft at the same time from Tom Woods. Mine did fine till a 241 dropped in my lap

All good info. guess I'll just have to choose. I do prefer to play in the mud but it will probably come down to what I can find around here at a reasonable cost.

Since I usually use my GPS for speed, would it matter if I only found a 241 with electronic speedo and didn't hook it up?

You can also make the electronic speedometer work with an electronic speedometer cluster.

Dont they make a CV for the slip yoke trans?

Honestly I think for *most* purposes the slip yoke is the superior design. If you constantly destroy rear driveshafts and need to get back then an SYE or fixed yoke 205 is the answer. But the SYEs are not cheap, and I'd prefer not having to keep up on lubing the driveshaft to keep the splines alive

FWIW, the 205 is stronger, but it's not rated for a whole lot more input torque than the 241.

Really depends what your actual usage requires.
