What To Use For Pivot On Tire Carrier?

I saw a thread on pirate about spindles breaking but if I recall corectly (not a paying member on pirate and can't search anymore), they kept referring to a "Vendor on this board" and never actually mentioned the vendor's name. I have not found anyone else that sells a spindle for a tire carrier though.

Here's a few pics of the aftermath. I will have to wait until after christmas to get some pics of how it is now after the repairs. One is of the carrier just to get an idea, another is for the swing side retaining pin and the others are different views of the broken spindle which was mounted to the passenger side on a bracket that kept the factory bumper in place.

That grease hole definetly looks like it would weaken the integrity of the spindle. Is that hole normal on most 1000# trailer spindles? I know that my Rockstomper piece does not have it.

FWIW putting the tire in the center just makes the lever arm it has to work against the spindle that much longer. I'd put the tire as close to the spindle as is reasonable to do.

I had my rockstomper one break right there too, maybe a little lower. I didn't have much support on the other side of the arm so it did vibrate a lot, and had a 35" tire mounted to it.

bulldogK5 i am very interested to see how you repaired yours, I never got around to fixing mine yet

That is a killer looking bumper! Is the tire hard to raise and lower?
I will definatly say that something like that is beyond my fabricating skills at this time.

I'm wondering, with the spare in the down position, if it gets in the way for loading & unloading.

No tire is not that hard to raise and lower, then you can slip it out while its on the ground, lot easier than picking one up waste high!

Yes some things will be harder to load, you could always unbolt the whole carrier or just slip the tire off for loading/hauling.
