You can use a flathead and hammer in place of the hub socket if you're careful. You pretty much need a pair of circlip pliers for the stub shaft retainer, although with finesse you could probably do it with a small flathead or a pick (pliers are cheap and small though). You can get the carrier out with a rag if you have a pinion socket or pipe wrench or some way to turn the pinion.
The lower trunnion bearing cap is a pain in the ass every time for me and it's usually a combination of a brass punch & hammer to rotate it and a prybar once I can get under it. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has a better method.
Other than the wheelbearing locknut and the circle clip, all you really need is a few sockets and that rag and some way to turn the pinion.
