I am going to look at an 81 Chev dually 2wd tonight with a 454 and a 4 speed. What tranny would that have in it?

Thanks

I thought it was an sm465 I didn't know if that was the only trans available or not. Thanks!

hey I just saw him in a magazine that I picked up in the Dallas Airport during my layover yesterday....looked like he was having some fun.
I don't know, I guess a pat on the back and some good luck, lol.

I had a 1980 C20 Crew Cab in high school that had a 454 and we pulled the 400 and put a 700R4 in it and it handled it fine. Hell my grandpa pulled his 30 foot fifth wheel with it all over the country and never had an issue. No overdrive was killin what little mileage the 454 would get:D.

true about the mpg...one nice thing I do like about my 700r is that super low 1st. Sure makes it nice since my gearing is, well lacking.

It looks like it has a Dana 60 to me. Unless you are just asking a general question I really don't know.

Edit: Got my posts mixed up disregared anything I say :}

isn't the 2wd manual the sm420?
In the older trucks they are. In the '73 on up trucks, they are the 465's but some trucks ran a 3 speed manual tranny, too, along with some very rare trucks in the 80's that ran a 3 speed with an overdrive to make it a 4 speed.

GM did weird things to the truck line. :screwy:

Well hell, I guess it dosent matter. I drove 90 miles to look at it and when I get there the guy says...I told you about the dropped valve right?

Ummmm...no...

:doah: :mad:

No. The 2wd is still a SM465.

Now if we are talking a '67 or older truck, all the 4 speeds were 2wd SM420's, 4x (divorced xfer) or 2x.
