Browsing the local CL found an add for a trans/t-case combo. It's not a 465/205. Guy says it's a Tremac. I thought the other manual trans option was a Dodge variant with overdrive. I did have an 83 C10 that had a 3speed...not sure what that was though.

Here's the add.

looks like the old three speed standard that had the column shift...

Three speed column shift I vote for as well. I wouldn't want to mess with it. Unless you already have that and need à replacement.

I had a Tremec 3 speed in a '75 K5 2wd blazer I had years ago...they were a pretty decent tranny, the gear ratios weren't much different than 2nd,3rd,and 4th in a SM 465...I remember mine having a five bolt mount to the bellhousing,I tugged and pried on it for half an hour with a crowbar when I was going to replace the clutch, before I discovered a "extra" bolt on the top side of the bellhousing, first GM tranny I ever saw with more than the usual 4 bolts to the bellhousing!............................................................................................I suspect that came from a 73 truck,NOT an 83,I have seen a few first generation blazers with straight sixes and 307's that had that tranny with a floor shifter like the one pictured in that ad,and a few 73 and 74 trucks ,but never in anything later than that...I wouldn't be scared to use that setup, its no weaker than many other tranny & t-case combos used in later years...

I didn't plan on buying it. Just currious as to what it was. Then again....if I could talk him donw. Might look good next to the 465/205, 465/203, 465/208, 350/203, 350/208, 400/203 and 700/208 I've got tucked in the shed.

The one in my 83 started life as a colum shift. Was converted to floor shift (very poorly) by one of the previous owners. It would sometimes get stuck in two gears when you were trying to get into reverse. That truck had a 250 straight six, so I'm guessing it was the stock trans.

Pretty sure they stopped using them in 75. When I was looking for a first gen blazer I was looking at a strait 6 one with that 3 speed in it. I've only seen them in early 70s trucks. I've heard the ratio is the same as the 123 in early 465s as well. Would suck not having low gear though for wheeling.

I went back and looked closer at the CL ad photos, the more I look at that tranny it doesn't look like a Tremec,it lacks the 5th bolt my '75 had and I dont recall mine having a top cover that unbolts, but it might have--old Ford 3.03 three speeds look more like that tranny does, like a 60's Mustang used...they did use those in some GM cars in the late 60's like Pontiac Tempests and Buick Specials, but I never saw one mated to a transfer case in a 4wd..till now?........I've seen 72 Blazers with straight sixes and a Saginaw 3 speed tranny and a Dana 20 transfer case,I remember then having a weird ball socket shifter rod arrangement on the t-case adapter....they used Muncie 3 speeds in 73-78 or so GM full sized 4x4s too...not very common though ...

The 3 speed muncie doesnt have the top cover, although it does have the two shift "rails" down the side.

If anyone needed that particular tranny,I bet the seller could name his price!!--probably THE last one in the USA thats still around!...still not sure WTH it really IS though...kind of weird seeing a 3 speed with a NP-205,its a first for me...wonder if its from a FORD,and the guy thinks it was from a GM?..

It's a GM. It has the chevy bellhousing and the NP205 is passenger drop.

It's definately a hens tooth,as far as GM 4x4 trannies go then!...bet GM only made a few dozen like it with the NP-205 behind it...hate to be the poor sap who needs one,or the t-case adapter, good luck ever finding another one..
