What transfercase

I'm looking at an 1987 3/4 to suburban and what I saw on the tag of the np transfercase said 261. Was this and option in 1987 or could it have been changed? this was the only tag the was left.

What was avalible for those years?

Hey guys I meant 1987 and it has auto hubs.

Yeah I thought most in this vintage were a 208. The only tag that was left was a circular tag with a series of punched numbers and the only number punched by itself at the bottom of the tag was 261. This was the only number that was close to a np t-case model.

2.61 IS the gear ratio--its most likely a NP208...I'm not sure just whem GM started usng the NP241 case,or the ratio it has,but one will fit in place of a NP208....

241 is 2.72:1 and started in '89.
