What transmission do I have?

I have an 03 sierra with a 5 speed manual trans. Standard cab, and bed with a 4.3 v6. I would like to know what transmission I have, and also why the user manual rates the towing capacity at 1000 lbs less than the same truck with an auto? Any ideas? Thanks.

you have the small getrag

it is very small and weak that is why the low tow capacity, the are so weak the salvage yards in our area cant keep them and they are HIGH DOLLAR!!!
