What transmission is this?

Hey guys, need some help identifying a transmission. Anyone know what manual transmission would have been mated to an np203...besides an sm465 or sm420? The shifter is on the side, rather than on the top, like those two. I was told it came out of a '74 K5, when I bought some other parts from it...whether it's really from that truck, or if it may have been swapped in at some point, I have no idea. There's no bellhousing, and I havent pulled it apart yet to know what spline count. It has "GM2 6273262" on the case...I think, it's kinda hard to tell if they're 6s or 8s....and "GM4 3952646", and possibly "C264" or "C234", on the side cover. I'll try to post pics when I can. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Too bad you’re not closer. Know a guy that uses lots of those. I even have an Advanced Adapter version of that I need to get back to him

So basically...everyone seems to be in agreement that it's a Saginaw 3 speed? Anyone know what specific model, so I can find more info on it, know what parts to get, etc?

Next question would be...is it any good? Particalarly, behind a BBC or LS?Seems like you can get a floor shifter for it...would it be worth throwing in a K5, that sees mostly street driving? Or could the adapter possibly be used with some other transmission...like maybe a car style 4 speed....something that shifts a little less like a dump truck than an sm465? Or is it pretty much just useless garbage? Probably worth hanging onto, either way, just due to rarity....

My 73 k5 came with a saginaw and Dana 20 t-case. It was three on the tree.
I blew up the Saginaw with a h.o. 305 so not thinking it will live up to a bbc or ls .

I had a 77 blazer with the 3 on the tree and 205. I'm sure I still have the trans and possibly the 205 with it. Replaced the motor with a 350 and put a 465/205 back in. That became my first snow plow truck

Does anyone know what years this combo would have been available. I thought that in some years (at least one for sure) that the 6 cylinder was not available with the 203. That 3spd/203 combo has to be the oddest and rarest combo out there.

I think the only thin as rare or rarer would be the a833 3 speed od trans mated up to a 208.

But I’d agree the Saginaw will not hold up to any abuse.

Saginaw full synchro 3 speed...just a little bit better than a Borg Warner non-synchro. Unless you are restoring it to bone stock (for whatever reason) in a truck show "original" class...toss it! Newer transmissions are far superior to that anchor.

It seems that manual transmissions and 203’s were only paired up in 74 & 75 ( I’ve read in a GM parts catalog that 76 was included but have never seen or ever heard of that being the case ) behind only V-8’s for some reason.

There is a guy on here that goes by 82355 ( or something close to that ) that seems to be really up on GM‘s mid-seventies RPO code offerings - he might be able to shed some more light on this “unicorn“ application.

You must be speaking of Martin @82355
