What Transmission?

Ok so I work for this farmer and he has an older chevy pickup with the 6.2 diesel. I drive it around a lot and it is a sweet truck. Its an 89 or 90 I think, also its a 2500. He offered it to me for a good price and I am thinking about buying however, the question. It's an automatic and I figured it had a 700r4 like my k5 but I looked at the shifter and it only had D 2 1 is this a turbo 400? I checked twice and there appears to be no overdrive on the truck is this right?

I think the 700R-4 was 1/2 ton only. We bought a parts one ton (2WD) and it had a TH400.

i think the 700r4 was 1/2 ton and some 3/4 tons. i know of quite a few 700r4 in 3/4 tons and a few th400 in the same year/model.
